Hi everyone let me introduce myself for those of you who dont know me ..I am Thomas the owner of STONERO surf club in Volvi lake
before going on i would like to thank the administrator for accepting me in your nice company and for excusing the fact that my level of Bulgarian language is not good enough to write and communicate with all of you so he allowed me to write in English (big thank you Eddie)
So i would like to inform all of you first of all about our open international slalom race but also to answer all your questions about our spot -club and invite you to check out for your selves the conditions and our hospitality...after all we are the closest windy place to Sofia....outside Bulgaria...
Last year we hosted in our club the Greek national championship and some Bulgarian friends joined us and actually one of them Pavel Ovodovski won (by sweeping away the competition) So i have decided to organise every year at least one open international slalom race for all friends from every where in the world that would like to join us and have fun competing with each other in the warm windy waters of volvi lake. So it would be a great pleasure for me and my family but also all surfers from the territory to meet more of our Bulggarian brothers race and have fun ...I am sure that those of you who have been in last years race will come back again and i also know that many of the friends who are visiting the lake during the weekends have planned to do that too but this is a great opportunity for me to invite all of you of any level...
Just some practical information ... Rooms can be either booked from us or direct and you can find very nice rooms from 10 euro/person /night.. we offer all racers our legendary buffet breakfast and dinner for only 15 euro per day (breakfast=5 dinner=10 drinks not included) and our prices for those who like to eat more during the day are really economical...
Getting to Volvi is very easy and it takes only one hour and ten minutes after you cross the border... (i will be glad to post the fastest route in google maps link) as for the conditions we have had a great year so far with very windy spring as always but also super windy July and August so far(meltemi was not at its best this year)...so we are expecting good winds for the race too meaning 15-20 knots with slalom conditions (not choppy just small easy waves)
Racing rules
we will race under the isaf slalom rules using 3 boards 6 sails max (not necessary to have so much equipment though since i think two boards and max 3 sails cover most conditions here) The wind limit is 8 knots as for the pwa but we will wait for at least 12 -13 and will only race with lighter wind if there is no race till the day before last.
In case we have a lot of friends who are not very very proficient we will have a gold and a silver fleet so anyone can participate and have fun . registration is on Thursday 1/9 from 9 in the morning till 15.00 when the first race will begin of course those of you who cannot make it on thursday can race too when they wil come just register via email.
For those of you who can make it a few days before we have a BIG SURPRISE WAITING FOR YOU
BEN VAN DER STEEN PWA number 3 so far and 2nd in Alacati will be with us for the race but he will also come a few days before so he will give a slalom -speed clinic for a very very very friendly price for everyone interested (the clinic will take place from sunday 28 till wndesday 31 of August cost only 100 euros per person)
