P1 First Impressions With Jake V
After 2017 being the year of no kiting for me (not that it’s that impressive; our summer season is only 4-5 months), I have made it a point to get out more this year- and heck, after zero sessions I will be doing great if I hit 2 sessions.
With that said, I jumped at the chance to be the first one on staff to ride the all-new P1. Not wanting to go into this blind, I made sure I had a few sessions under my belt on other gear, including the 2019 14m Rally, 2018 19m Contra and finally, the Liquid Force P1 12m. Being a heavy rider at 260lbs on a good day, I have always been concerned with the low-end power of all the LF kites since most of the previous LF kites did not really have a focus on the freerider looking for a kite that rides upwind well and has better low-end power. Well, I have to admit that the P1 has nailed it. With 5-strut stability, light bar pressure, fast, responsive turning and a more of a sheet-and-go performance, the P1 just made my kite buying decision for 2019 gear a little harder. Maybe it was the low expectations I had for the P1 or the perfect conditions for that day with the 12m (20-24 knots), or just the fact that I was having a great time, but if you are a freerider that likes to jump and cruise around and you have very little interest in unhooking, I think you will be happy with the latest addition to the Liquid Force kite lineup.
Features & Benefits
Stable 5-strut platform offering superior stability and a rigid airframe for clean, precise response and control.
Forward wing profile creates a progressive power band for that "sheet in and go" feel, as well as efficient, easy power management for handling gusty and varied wind conditions.
High sweep, constant curve leading edge through the wingtip provides reactive bar feel and rapid re-launch.
Teijin technical coated triple ripstop canopy. Ultra-light, abrasion, and tear resistant UV coated material ensuring longevity in kite performance.
Simple, no-pulley bridle support. Lightweight and responsive by design. The lack of pulleys creates a more direct connection from rider to kite while eliminating unwanted weight on the leading edge.
